Welcome, and a few head's-up...

*sigh* I'm a blogger now. I don't know if that makes me any more relevant than I was 45 seconds ago, but it makes me feel more relevant, and that's the postmodern thing do do.

I hope to update this weekly, and to sharpen my focus as I go. I also encourage suggestions, so if there's something you want me to bring up here, by all means fire away.

A few head's-up - I encourage dialogue and debate. I thrive in conflict. I also dislike rude postings, so let's work together and try to keep things civil, shall we? The Web has encouraged more debate and less civility than perhaps any other invention of mankind. Let's try to improve that second part, ok?

That means avoid the personal attack, be willing to restate and take responsibility for your own words, and basically just try to be nice to each other for a while. Even when you disagree.

I'm currently pondering a review/response to a few films, one TV series, and a Scriptural debate that's been bugging me for some time.

Give me some time and I'll see which one sifts to the top.

Be Good...

I take issue with the blatantly unfounded theological assumptions in this post.

"Be good?" What kind of radical, left or right wing nonsense is that? I think we all remember the words of C.S. Lewis in regards to this:

"Either we give up trying to be good, or else we become very unhappy indeed. For, make no mistake: If you are really going to try to meet all the demands made on the natural self, it will not have enough left over to live on. The more you obey your conscience, the more your conscience will demand of you. And your natural self, which is thus being starved and hampered and worried at every turn, will get angrier. In the end, you will either give up trying to be good or else become one of those people who, as they say, "live for others" but always in a discontented, grumbling way -- always making a martyr of yourself. And once you have become that you will be a far greater pest to anyone who has to live with you than you would have been if you had remained frankly selfish."

Really. I expected more from you.

For what it's worth, the film/tv review seems quite attractive... and relevant... and postmodern... and... exestin... exepos... neat.
